    Dear Epiphany Families,

Well,  it feels like spring right now; what a great week for vacation!

Here is what is going on tomorrow:

    • Children's Worship for Pre-K - 5th grade at 10:00am.
    • Childcare is available in the nursery from 9:00-12:00
    • YPF meets Sunday night at 6:00pm in the Garret.

Because of school vacation there is no church school in the Myra Higgins Formation Wing.

Here is what is going on this week:

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, Sponsored by the Genesis Youth Group, is this Tuesday, February 28th, 6:00-7:30pm in Hadley Hall. There's a pancake toss, and lots of options for pancakes including Chocolate Chip, Blueberry, Plain Pancakes, as well as sausages and fruit. The evening concludes with an introduction to Family Lenten Disciplines

Ash Wednesday Family Service, March 1st, 4:00pm

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the 40 days of Lent. During Lent, we are called to simplify our lives, re-connect to our faith through prayer and service and to remove or add to our lives disciplines that will deepen our connection to the Holy. Children need to be part of this holy time!  Plan on attending this brief family service.

Here is what you can look forward to during Lent:

Communion Enrichment program - All children in 2nd grade or higher are invited to participate, a program over the course of the first four Sundays in March, designed to help your child better understand the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Eucharist, and the sacramental rite of Reconciliation. Parents are asked to participate in this program with their children. Children who have participated in a communion program in the past are welcome to join us.

LENT TO GO bags - These bags are for families to bring home and will be available at the Shrove Tuesday supper.  They contain six small items each with a corresponding reflection card for the five weeks of Lent and for Holy Week. On each reflection card is a Lenten scripture passage and on the back are discussion questions and instructions appropriate for all ages. Set aside a special space in your house and choose one night each week for all to gather; around the dinner table at dinner is a good! Lay out the mat and the candle; have this remain a special space for all of Lent. Each week, a symbol is added and the scripture passage of the week is read followed by reflection questions. You might want to repeat the reading on several nights!

    Children's Chapel

Prophecy of the Names (Isaiah 9:6):  This second Sunday of Advent, we spend time exploring the prophecies foretelling coming of the Messiah from Hebrew Scripture.  As we prepare and wait for Christmas, we listen to the words that comforted those who watched and waited for the Messiah long before Jesus was born.  The children will hear that prophets are those who listen very closely to God, and share God's plans with the people.  The prophecy of the Names proclaims that a special child will be born with many special names.  Ask your child what names he or she remembers for this child!

Kindergarten/1st grade Prophecy of the Place (Micah 5:2): Prophecies offer images and expressions which are striking to and readily grasped by the children. They are presented to the children to increase their understanding of Jesus and to increase their understanding of the plan God has for us. The Prophecy of the Place proclaims the birthplace of Jesus as Bethlehem.

2nd Grade: Prophecy of the Place (Micah 5:2): Prophecies offer images and expressions which are striking to and readily grasped by the children. They are presented to the children to increase their understanding of Jesus and to increase their understanding of the plan God has for us. The Prophecy of the Place proclaims the birthplace of Jesus as Bethlehem.

3rd /4th Grade: Prophecy of the Shoot of Jesse (Isaiah 11:1-3a) and Communal Prayer: God’s promise of the coming of the Messiah is revealed through the prophecy of Isaiah which foretells that the Messiah will be a descendant of Jesse. The children will meditate on this prophecy. As a continuation of communal prayer, the children will be introduced to how to read and respond to various parts of our service with the intention that they will able to lead the prayers themselves during prayer time in the atrium. Today the children will learn about the Scripture readings, the Psalms and the Blessing.
