This vigil will be led by clergy and parishioners from Epiphany and we expect to be joined by members of many other Winchester faith communities who are passionate about immigration justice. Please consider joining us! All ages are welcome.

You can also drive to the meeting spot which is near the Correctional Facility at 20 Bradston Street in Boston. For more information contact Carol Hollingshead.

What happens at these vigils?

We gather for introductions and initial prayers at 2:00pm and then march around to the side of the facility which houses immigrants detained by ICE. We are able to wave, show signs, sing, pray, and chant in view of the detainees who crowd the windows. The men and women can see and hear us, wave back, and know that they are not forgotten. This is a powerful opportunity to witness our baptismal covenant to strive for justice and peace among all people and to respect the dignity of every human being. By 3:00pm, we walk back to the starting point to board our bus home.

What is our purpose?

  • To offer a visible sign of emotional and moral support to people living inside the detention center.
  • To make a public statement that people of faith are standing up for the rights of undocumented people.
  • To make the invisible visible. ICE thrives on invisibility. Detention and deportation are happening here and we must make that known.
  • To garner a commitment from people in attendance to continue taking action for immigration justice.
