Epiphany's Initiative to Support Chelsea Residents

  • June 11, 2020
  • June 20, 2020

Since 2009, Epiphany parishioners have been actively involved at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Chelsea, participating in their Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry programs.  Every Friday morning our volunteers unload the enormous amount of donated food off the trucks and onto the pantry shelves in preparation for St. Luke’s Saturday Food Pantry.

Likewise, on the third Saturday of every month,
Epiphany’s dedicated Soup Kitchen crew would cook and serve a hot breakfast and lunch for Chelsea residents.  Unfortunately, the onset of Covid-19 in early March forced the closing of the Soup Kitchen and pantry work.  Not to be deterred, the Epiphany group developed a safer alternative plan to continue providing lunches for our vulnerable Chelsea neighbors.

We invite you to join the effort by participating in one or more areas of our 3-part initiative:  our bagged lunch brigade, personal hygiene donations, and our Bella Isla Restaurant venture!

·      Bagged lunches can be made from your own kitchen and left in a box on your front porch for a driver to pick up and take to St. Luke’s early on Saturday morning. These lunches will be placed in the Food Pantry grocery bags and handed out by Father Edgar’s volunteers.

For specific information for those of you in Winchester, contact Roz Nazzaro at rosalyn02478@yahoo.com  or for Belmont, Arlington and other communities, contact Claudia Bell at claudiacantey@gmail.com

·      For specific donations of personal hygiene products, contact Claudia Bell at claudiacantey@gmail.com

·      Our restaurant partnership with Bella Isla Restaurant, located a block from St. Luke’s, is an exciting opportunity to provide a free hot meal for the people in the pantry line as well as help support a local Chelsea restaurant and five employees.  Each week the owner, Rosa Baez, sends 100 vouchers to St. Luke’s for Father Edgar to place in the food pantry bags. We hope to grow this initiative exponentially, raising funds through this GOFUNDME site, click here.
