Summer usually offers us some vacation time, a chance to step away from our work responsibilities in order to rest and be refreshed. Vacations will happen in a different way this year due to the pandemic. But I hope these summer months offer each of you some time of rest and renewal.
I will be on vacation for two weeks, from July 26 through August 9. I’m grateful to Brett Johnson and Thea Keith-Lucas for taking the Sunday services during that time. And we’ll also have some guest preachers from the diocesan staff. Bishops Gates and Harris and the canons on the diocesan staff have each pre-recorded a sermon for use by congregations in their online worship on the Sundays of July and August. According to a recent communication from our diocese, these video sermons “are intended as a gift of support to the clergy, helping to enable them to schedule vacations or lighten their preaching rota.”
Here are the presiders and preachers for the Sundays I’ll be away:
July 26: Morning Prayer with Brett Johnson as officiant, and video sermon by the Rt. Rev. Alan Gates, Bishop Diocesan
August 2: Holy Eucharist with Thea Keith-Lucas as celebrant, and video sermon by the Rev. Canon Edie Dolnikowski, Canon for Ordained Vocations
August 9: Holy Eucharist with Thea Keith-Lucas as celebrant, and video sermon by the Rev. Canon Bill Parnell, Canon to the Ordinary
The Rev. Carol Morehead, Rector of Grace, Medford, will be on call for pastoral emergencies during this time. She can be reached on weekdays at 781-396-7215 and on evenings and weekends at 512-947-1324.
